Loud & Dirty Fall Nationals at the B.O.S  (18/19 Oct 2019)

Once   SUPER DIRT WEEK  at Oswego NY , has been and gone, it’s time to get out your long-johns and thermals for the Loud & Dirty Fall Nationals at the Brockville Ontario Speedway (18/19 Oct) .

It’s surprising how much the temperatures can drop , just by driving north a  few hours .

I got back home from Oswego on Sunday night and had the week to recharge my energy before Fridays opening night.

This was a busy one, with a program consisting of the SUPER DIRTCAR SERIES for the Big Block Modifieds, as well as  DIRTCAR Series Races for Pro Stocks and Sportsman. Add to this , the domestics Ministocks.

On Saturday the  DirtCar 358 Series was headlining the show,  with the E.S.S Sprint Cars and Street Stocks adding to the program.

The weather forecast for the weekend, was dry and cold, but it rained all over the region on Thursday, so I was expecting the grounds to be muddy. My friends from the #6 Stephane Lebrun Pro Stock team were also thinking the same thing, so planned to get there when the pit gates opened,  to bag a nice dry spot in the pits. Chanty and Ted Lesage were joining them on the drive over from Gatineau , Quebec so I met them at the track at 1-30 pm. Once parked up, Chanty and I went down the road for a late lunch at the Tincap Restaurant, before returning to the track.

Stephane and his wife Carole  had a heater running in the race car trailer and a good supply of hot coffee to keep everybody warm.

It wasn’t long before the other # 6 , DIRTCAR  C.E.O  Brian Carter came up for a chat. He was in attendance , competing in his Pro Stock # 6c

Once the cars took to the track, I left the pits to join the band of ‘Togs’ on the middle to shoot the action.

The order of events had the Pro Stock Feature up first.

After Kevin Fetterley led for the first part of the race, Tyler Bushey took the lead after dueling with Stephane  . Thats how the positions  stayed as they crossed the line.

It was a great result for Bushey, who , is a ‘rookie’ in the Pro Stock division after being a regular  Street Stocks winner for a number of years.

This being the Final race in the DIRTCAR Pro Stocks tour, C.d. Beauchamp was announced 2019 Champion.

Next up was the 100 lap SUPER DIRTCAR SERIES.

Jack Lehner who started on pole, took the early lead in this one, and held on to it until over half way .

The cream was starting to rise, and after a restart, Matt Sheppard got past him first, shortly followed by Larry Wight ,  Mat Williamson and Billy Decker. Thats how they stood at the checkers.

Worthy of note, is that in Sheppards long  and remarkable career , this was his first ever win at the B.O.S.

By now it was, nearly 11-00 pm , and the cold night was getting the better of me, so I gave the Sportsman race a miss, and headed back home to Cornwall.

Johnathon Ferguson  44 got the win, and Kevin Root 34 was crowned the DIRTCAR SPORTSMAN Champion of 2019.

Saturdays racing at the B.O.S didn’t start until 5-00, so I had plenty of time relaxing at home, before heading back down Hwy 401.

Hot Laps were taking place earlier so I got there in time to take some shots on the out side of turn one.

The program consisted of the headlining DIRTCAR 358 Series , E.S.S Sprint Cars and Street Stocks.

It wasn’t as cold as the night before and there was quite a bit of sunshine for the late afternoon heat races.

Before the main events, a tribute to Mike Lasalle , took place in front of the main Grandstand.

Mike , a good friend of mine, and many others in the sport, sadly passed away last month.

Also at this point, Rick Wilson, a long time racer in both Modifieds and Sprint Cars was inducted into the B.O.S  Hall of Fame.

The 25 lap E.S.S Sprint Car Feature was up first, and after only one caution, it was Steve Poirier who took the checkers.

Next up was the 110 lap DIRTCAR 358 Series race.

David Hebert led this one, from start to finish , at times, holding off the occasional challenge from Mat Williamson. A fast moving, Mike Maresca got passed Williamson in the closing stages and was on Heberts tale as they crossed the line. Maybe another few laps, and Maresca could of done it, but who knows.

It was good to see Dave get a Series race win.

At this point , and the final tour race of the year, Erick Rudolph was crowned the 358 Modified DIRTCAR CHAMPION of 2019.

The Street Stocks, were the only remaining feature left to run, so I chose to make my exit and head for home.

This brings  the racing in my area to an end for this year and with no upcoming plans for trips south, I have plenty of time to recharge my energy for 2020.
