BACK to the TRACK , MAY 2020

‘BACK to the TRACK     MAY 2020

May started off , much the same as April, with most of the world still locked down, trying to fight the COVID 19 virus, but things began to brighten up by the end of the month.

Like everything else racing has been put on hold as everyone needs to self distance and stop the spread.

As the virus started to slow down and things began to re-open , a group of Ontario speedway promoters got together , to lobby the government with a plan to get ‘ cars back on the track’.

The response was positive , and ‘baby steps’ are now happening.

Practice sessions have been taking place at many tracks, with no public allowed, and the race teams and staff having to adhere to the strict COVID 19 precautions and social distancing .

On the weekend of 23/24 , I was at the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday and the Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday.

A week later Cornwall had practice on Friday the 29th and Sunday the 31st and was there too, to capture the action.

These are small steps forward , as we try to get back to some kind of normal.

The next part of the plan is to have the cars racing, but still without fans in the grandstand.  The public can watch the races on-line via Pay Per View  broadcasts.

Cornwall have  a ‘Back to the Track’ event for Modifieds and Sportsman on the 6th of June,  and the Humberstone Speedway, at Port Colborne, Ontario have a ‘Lockdown Showdown’ for Modifieds and Thunderstocks on the 13th of June.

I hope to be at both of them
