February 2021 Report

FEBRUARY 2021 REPORT

February started off as another month of the COVID lockdowns , that were brought into force at Christmas.

Things were re-opened in my area in time for the scheduledĀ  Ice RacingĀ  to take place on the 21st of the month.

In the last few years ice racing has taken place at the Calabogie Racing Circuit, located about an hours drive from Ottawa, but this year race organizer Greg Van Dalen switched venues to the old Capital City Speedway, at Stiitsville.

Racing hasn’t taken place on the track since 2014 ( not counting a few events held in the parking lot) . I was track photographer there from 2005 untilĀ  its closure, so it was good to be back.

There were 40 cars in attendance , which included a few cars from the Minden Hills track.

It was a perfect sunny day for ice racing and everything went well under the strict COVID protocols.

The next event was scheduled for a week later on the 28th of February, and once again it was a great day of racing.

Two of my old friends from the past at CCS, were racing. Former Late Model driver, Kenny Baird # 2 and Mini Stocker Dave Watchorn # 9 .

Both picked up wins.
