RACE CAR TOUR OF THE CORNWALL CITY CENTER (Weekly Blog 5th Oct 2020)

Weekly Blog  RACE CAR TOUR OF CORNWALLS CITY CENTER

It’s now three weeks since I returned from the UK and its been  the final week’s vacation for my friend Lynn from Hampshire in England, who joined me on the return flight to Canada.

We’ve known each other since we were teenagers from my motor-bike days, back in England and have stayed friends for over 50 years.

Although she’s not a big fan of racing, she’s attended quite a few events with me over the years , and on her visit back in 2007 she accompanied me to  SUPER DIRT WEEK in Syracuse.

During her stays,  she’s met up with many of my racing friends including Ron Morin and his wife Reina .

During the past week she met up with my buddy Don Simpson and his wife Lise .  She spent a day over at their place where Lise and her shared their love of horses.

In the evening we all went out for supper in Orleans (Nr Ottawa) .

On Friday  the 30th of October it was race day.

The R.P.M Speedway , at St Marcel , Quebec was on .

With this in mind we combined it with a road trip to see the tourist attractions  of Quebec City.

We left Cornwall around 7-00 am and were up there before lunch time.

We got to see the Plains of Abraham and the Chateau Frontenac.

We timed our visit , just right, because the cruise ship,  Queen Mary 2 was in port.

We got a good view of it from outside Chateau Frontenac.

After a couple of hours checking out the sites, it was time to head for the races. We arrived in good time to have a little bit of rest before the action started.

It was day one of a two day show they were staging , and the program consisted of Modifieds , Sportsman and their usual domestic divisions.

Sadly their were only about 16 Modifieds in attendance and the Sportsman count was also quite low.

This was probably due to some high profile events taking place elsewhere. Under normal circumstances, I would of been at the Fulton Speedway , New York, but with Lynn visiting me, I decided to stay in Canada.

This was also Canadas Day of Truth ,  so I was wearing orange in recognition  that night.

I took pictures on the middle for a while, then at intermission we decided to make our exit.

The Features for the headline divisions of Modifieds and Sportsman were scheduled as the last races of the night, and after the long day that we’d had, a late departure was not going to be on our agenda .

So , without seeing any of the features, we headed back to Cornwall.

In our absence, Evan Racine # 54 won the Modified feature and his younger brother William # 35 took the Sportsman event.

We were back in Cornwall before midnight.

The big action on Saturday night was taking place at Fulton , New York for the OUTLAW 200, but I remained at home in Cornwall. Matt Sheppard was the winner.

On Sunday morning, the 2nd of October, my day started by watching the F1 Grand Prix live on TV from Singapore. This gave a win for  Sergio Perez in the Red Bull.

At 1-00pm a very special event was taking place in my home city of Cornwall.

My good friend Corey Wheeler had arranged for a parade of race cars through the streets of the city to promote the forthcoming weekend of racing at the Cornwall Motor Speedway.

There was a great turn out of about 40 cars from all the divisions that gathered in the parking lot of the City Complex on Water Street.

At 1-00 pm they followed a police escort from Water Street to Brookdale Avenue.

After driving north up Brookdale they turned right on to 13th Street (By Mc Donalds) and down to Pitt Street. Another right turn was made (By the Dairy Queen) and they followed Pitt back to Water Street.

Once back at the City Complex , they drove around the back and in to the Bandshell area of Lameroux Park.

A meet and greet was set up here for the public with food available.

We were there to catch the parade going down Water Street and then returning down Pitt.

While I was taking pictures, Lynn managed to get a great video of the parade  .

After this we joined in the activities going on in Lameroux Park.

Tuesday the 4th of October was Lynn’s final day in Canada, and in the afternoon I dropped her off at the Montreal Airport.

I hope she enjoyed her visit.
