EASTER WEEKEND Carla’s Visit (2 to 5 April 2010)

04072010dRICK @ the RACES ( Easter Weekend 2/3/4/5/ April 2010)

Easter is now over and I hope everyone had a great weekend. I certainly did, and there wasn’t a race car in sight !

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, that the Easter break here in North America is so much different to what I was used to when I lived back in the UK. If I were to turn the clock back more than twenty years ago, you would have found me doing four race meetings in four days. Easter is one of the busiest periods for racing in the UK. Things would start on Good Friday, followed by Saturday, Easter Sunday and the holiday Monday.

In contrast here in North America racing events are a little scarce. I don’t know whether it’s because of the unpredictable weather or because it’s considered a ‘family time’

Instead of traveling a long distance to one of the few events that were taking place, I chose to have some ‘family time’.

Just before midnight on Thursday I picked up my daughter Carla from the Pierre Trudeau Airport in Montreal. She’d flown in from her new home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a weekend in Cornwall, Ontario with me .

Our Good Friday entertainment consisted of a night out watching some local hockey. The Cornwall Colts were playing against the Pembroke Lumberkings in the Jr A Play Offs. The Colts were beaten 2-1.04072010a

During the day on Saturday we spent our time in downtown Montreal before retuning home to Cornwall for a barbecue in the evening.

04072010bLater that night we walked to my nearby night spot ‘Le Maison’ for some excellent live music provided ‘Cheshire Grin’

We had a lazy day around the house on Sunday before making another trip back to Montreal for her return flight.

Meanwhile, back in the UK my buddies we having a feast of racing. The mighty BriSCA F1’s were in action at Skegness on Good Friday, Coventry on Saturday and Belle Vue (Manchester) on Monday.

Check out this great clip on ‘U Tube’ from Friday’s races at ‘Skeggy’. It’s shows perfectly what BriSCA F1 is all about . You’ll see a great battle between Frankie Wainman Jr (515) and Paul Harrison (2) . One of them get’s ‘stuffed’ on the last bend. Take a look and guess which one !

On Sunday my buddy Dave ‘Smiffyman’ Smith was busy with his Camera at Brafield, my former local track, then on Monday he was at Ipswich , my home town track. Check out his photos and story in ‘Buddies Blogs’ on www.rickattheraces.com

With Easter behind us, It’s all go in the North East and next weekend (April 10) sees a Big Block Mod SUPER DIRT SERIES at the Fulton Speedway NY. I’m looking forward to it.
