20 March         Cornwall Motor Speedway Banquet (Ramada Inn)

This past Saturday, I discarded my jeans and T shirt in favor of a dress suit for the annual Cornwall Motor Speedway banquet. Once again it was held at the Ramada Inn on the cities Brookdale Ave. Following an excellent buffet supper the 2009 season champions were given their awards.

Kyle Dingwall was the winner of the JIFFY AUTO SERVICE Modified Championship.

Joey Ladouceur won the Akwesasne Mohawk Pro Stock Championship, as well as the Mohawk Race Parts Series.

The Giant Tiger Semi Pro Championship was won by Jeff Phillips and Jean Marc Larose took the honors in the D & A Tractor Sales Mini Stock class.

The annual Sheldon Legue Merit Award was given to Pat O’Brien Snr and his wife Rose, the parents Modified racers, Pat, Danny and Tim. They were given the award in recognition of the great contribution the family has given to the sport.

While I spent Saturday at the banquet, my daughter Carla was once again at the races in Florida. She and Alex were attending the American Le Mans Series race at the Sebring Circuit. Problems with her camera prevent me from adding any of her photos.

On Sunday I was saddened to hear that Mark Smoke # 9 , one of our local Dirt Modified drivers from Hogansburg NY had tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident. He will be sadly missed and I offer my sincere condolences to his friends and family. RIP Mark Smoke
