Beauharnois Ice Racing (11 Feb 2007)

With lots to do at home and preparations to make, for a forthcoming racing tour, I didn’t venture too far this weekend, and drove the short distance to Beauharnois located on the outskirts of Montreal. It was here, some four years ago that I got my first taste of ice racing.

During the summer months, this is quite a tourist spot, as it nestles along side the great St Lawrence Seaway . In the winter, the frigid minus 25 or less temperatures turn this vast body of water into a frozen mass.

This is ideal for marking out an oval, and racing stock cars on the ice. Since my first visit back in 2003, I’ve visited a dozen more ice tracks , but this place is always worth a return visit.

There are usually plenty of cars ( about 30) and the eight cylinder division really get wound up. Spectators can either drive their cars on to the ice and view from the warmth of their cars or watch from the shoreline.02112007c 02112007b 02112007d
