JANUARY 2017 REPORT

Just like  2016, I started the new year in Austin , Texas. After spending the Christmas holidays and New Years Eve with my daughter Carla, Alex  and my grandchildren, Benji and Sophia.

I  flew out of the Austin-Bergstrom Airport at around 5- 30 , on my Air Canada flight back to Toronto on New Years Day.

Once back in Canada , I changed planes for the short flight back to Ottawa.

Once back home in Cornwall, Ontario it was time to adapt to the big difference in temperatures. From hot T shirt weather to hoodies.

One good aspect about the cold weather, was the optimism it gave me for an early start to the ice racing season.

Back home , also meant,  a string of medical appointments connected to my Myastenia Gravis condition, that were booked for the month of January. Not a week going by without one , or more visit on my schedule. My monthly, two day I.V.I.G transfusions took place at the Cornwall Hospital on 16/17 January.

While I was hoping for an early start to the Ice Racing at the Kahnawake Marina,  near to Montreal, many of my racing friends were getting excited about the Chili Bowl, indoor races in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Local interest surrounded , New York racers Larry Wight and Tim McCreadie, while my UK friends were following Banbury, Oxfordshire’s Tom Harris.

Larry did well and qualified for the A Main, the big race that was the climax of the event

Saturday 14 Jan , I went along to the pre -season practice at the Kahnawake Marina , before their Ice Racing Super Series was due to get underway the following week.

I missed the opener on 21 Jan, but was there for Round 2 on 28 Jan.

There was a good turn out of cars in both 4 and 8 cylinder divisions.

With January coming to an end, many of my friends will be looking forward to the start of the SUPER DIRT SERIES , which gets underway at the Volusia Speedway in Florida, in the middle of February. Once again I will have to miss this, with a trip to the UK up and coming in between yet more medical appointments..
