End of February 2022 Report ——-A Return to the Capital City Speedway

As  track photographer at the Capital City Speedway (Ottawa) from 2006 , until regular racing ceased in 2013, it’s always a pleasure to get back there for the winter ice racing.

Thanks to Greg van Dalen and the good people of the Calabogie Motor Sports Park, the track has come back to life in recent years with a series of winter ice races.

The season got under way on the 6th of February,  while I was visiting my daughter in the Carolina’s , so I had to miss that one.

Once returned  to Canada , I was back at the old place on the 13th of February.

It’s always nice to see some of the old faces from back in the day, when the track hosted regular weekly racing .

To name a couple, there was Dentman Dave Watchorn # 97 and Kenny Baird  # 2 and # 21

There was a good turn out of cars and ideal conditions for racing, albeit , a bit chilly for standing around taking pictures, There were two divisions AWD and 2WD.

As is the norm,, when I attend ice racing events, I don’t hang around for too long once I’ve got my pictures , I’m out of there and heading for the warm. Standing around for two or three hours in the extreme cold, is not an option for me.

One week later, on the 20th of February, I was back there again for their third week of racing.

Once again there was a good turn out of cars. Kenny Baird’s AUDI # 21  had sprouted wings for this weeks races.

Just like previous week, it was bitterly cold and it was made worse by a strong wind.

Once again, I got my pics and  got the hell out of there with the car heater cranked up..

The Ice Racing series was originally planned for a period of three weeks , with an extra week in hand, (Sunday 27th Feb) , in case one had to be cancelled.

All three events went down well, so with the track still in good shape, and drivers still wanting to race, the spare date was used as an extra event.

Of course I was there too.

The day before , on Saturday 26th February, I stayed local, and paid a visit to the Gage Morin # 16 Dirt Modified Team in Cornwall.

With the race season , just two and a half months away, they were making a start and getting their 2022 car ready for action
